Dementia poses an enormous global burden. Dementia disproportionately affects women, who are more likely to develop dementia and provide most of the care for others with dementia. Limited research has focused on the causes and consequences of dementia in women and its predecessor cognitive decline. The long-term impact of living with, or caring for, someone with dementia on women has not been fully explored. This project uses data from large-scale clinical trials, systematic reviews, and in-depth panel surveys to obtain an understanding of the biological, social, behavioural aspects of dementia/cognitive decline in women, and how this differs from men.
The supervisory team is Dr Mark Woodward, The George Institute for Global Health, Dr Maree Hackett, The George Institute for Global Health, and Dr Sanne Peters , The George Institute for Global Health UK.
