Annie Xiao: Look forward to a better future
Ms. Annie Xiao is a Research Service Manager at The George Institute, China and she is responsible for providing support for the whole research process, from project application to publication.
How long have you been working at The George Institute China? It has been over 5 months since I joined TGI China in August, 2017.
What is your professional background?
I obtained my PhD in Pathological Microbiology from the State Key Laboratory of Pathogens and Biosecurity, Beijing Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology, Beijing, China in 2012. Before joining TGI China, I worked for the Cardiology Branch of Tigermed and Merck Health China.
What attracted you to work at The George Institute?
Due to my major and personal interest, I prefer dedicating myself to research other than working in a pure commercial environment, hence I came to the institute and was impressed by its excellent academic atmosphere and its operational flexibility. I feel lucky to get the opportunity to work here.
What does your work focus on?
I am now responsible for providing support for the whole research process, from project application to publication. Moreover, I take charge of monitoring and tracking research projects to assure the quality.
To explain to people what I do I say…. Standardized scientific process and systematized management is critical for not only projects but also the whole operation. So in short, what I do is to help TGI China improving the process, and free research fellows from logistics and focus on research itself.
Why do you enjoy working at The George Institute?
We all strongly believe that our work can improve people’s health and benefit the whole population. That’s what drives us to devote ourselves to research work. Besides I really enjoy the easy but at the same time professional environment. In addition, all my colleagues are excellent and it’s great to learn from and work together with them.
To unwind at the end of the day you…
I enjoyed travelling, music and sports, but now I devote most of my leisure time to supporting my boy.
