Xiang Lan: Growing up with TGI
Meet Xiang Lan, Clinical Research Associate at The George Institute China.
How long have you been working at The George Institute?
It has been almost three years since I joined TGI China in July, 2014.
What is your professional background?
I got my bachelor's degree in clinical medicine and master's degree in public health. Ever since I graduated from university, I have been in the public health arenas.
What attracted you to working at The George Institute?
The George Institute is well-known for its great impact and expertise in the field of public health research whose mission is to improve the lives of millions of people worldwide. And I believe I could learn a lot within such a promising institute. With all these reasons, I came here and was glad about my decision.
What does your work focus on?
I am currently working on CPACS-3 and I-CARE projects. As a Clinical Research Associate, my job includes but not limited to ensuring compliance with the clinical trial protocol, checking clinical site activities, and assuring the protection of the rights, safety and well-being of research projects subjects. Additionally, I need to make certain that the scientific integrity of the data collected is protected and verified.
What difference will this make to healthcare and why?
The CPACS-3 project developed and evaluated interventions for the quality-of-care improvement in management of patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) in remote county hospitals with un-optimized resources. And the I-CARE project aims to develop, pilot test, implement, and evaluate a nurse-coordinated depression care model integrated into the care of ACS patients with rigorous assessment of feasibility, effectiveness, acceptability and cost in rural China. Both of these projects are tackling practical health care issues and improving the lives of patients.
Why do you enjoy working at The George Institute?
TGI China values staff and offers regular academic training opportunities. Moreover, I very much enjoy the dynamic work culture here that incorporates flexibility and work-life balance.
Your biggest achievement so far…
I guess the biggest achievement is witnessing my own progress no matter in work or in my daily life.
To unwind at the end of the day you…
Music, movie, travelling, I appreciate all the good things in our lives.
