This proposal will be built on the current large-scale cluster randomised controlled trial in China: The Salt Substitute and Stroke Study (SSaSS). SSaSS seeks to evaluate the effects of sodium reduction on the risk of stroke amongst 21,000 rural participants. SSaSS utilises a novel approach to trial conduct by accessing the China New Rural Co-operative Medical Scheme and National Mortality Surveillance System. The primary objectives of this project are to validate the routinely collected data system in China, and further to determine the effect of the sodium reduction on the broader cardio-metabolic outcomes through the routinely collected datasets.
Candidates with excellent epidemiology and statistical skills (or the potential to develop these skills) will be ideal. The candidate should also have strong communication skills and ability to engage with diverse stakeholder as the project will require extensive collaboration between academic and government sectors for routinely collected data.
The supervisory team is Bruce Neal, The George Institute for Global Health, Maoyi Tian, The George Institute for Global Health, Sallie Pearson, Centre for Big Data Research in Health
