Senior Biostatistician
The Role
The Statistics team is responsible for the provision of statistical expertise to support the research projects conducted at The George Institute; this includes clinical trials, observational studies, meta-analyses, surveys as well as teaching and the development of new statistical methods.
The Senior Biostatistician is responsible for the design, analysis and reporting of medical research projects or clinical trials conducted by the George Institute in China and globally, or George affiliated enterprises or external organizations.
Reporting Relationships
The Senior Biostatistician will directly report to the Head, Biostatistics and Data Management in Beijing.
Duties and Key Responsibilities
· Author statistical analysis plans
· Contribute to proposal development
· Perform sample size/power calculations
· Help develop funding applications and research protocols
· Prepare derived datasets for the analyses using SAS
· Program and validate statistical analyses in SAS
· Perform complex statistical analyses
· Prepare and deliver reports for interim and final analyses
· Contribute to the interpretation and publication of research results
· Independently manage all statistical aspects of a project
· Coordinate a project team of biostatisticians and/or (statistical) programmers
· Provide statistical advice to Institute researchers
· Develop internal capacity in biostatistics via short courses and seminars
· Keep abreast of new statistical methods
· Actively develop professional networks with peer statisticians locally and internationally
· Comply with all institute policies and SOPs as well as regulatory requirements for the programming, analysis and reporting of research projects (e.g. FDA, EMEA, TGA etc)

Skills, Knowledge and Experience
· Masters/ Doctoral qualifications in Statistics
· Minimum 5-year experience as a statistician in medical research
· In-depth understanding of probability and statistics theory
· Excellent working knowledge of SAS software
· Understanding of data management principles for clinical trials and medical research
· Applied knowledge of advanced statistical models, such as generalized linear models, survival analyses and mixed models
· Working knowledge of regulatory requirements for clinical trials and medical research
· Strong focus on quality and timely delivery of work.
· Well organized with good time management skills
· Strong problem solving and analytical skills
· Excellent interpersonal skills with high level of proficiency in English
· Ability to work well and flexibly ie. autonomously, in small teams and with a wide range of varying stakeholders
· Ability to be flexible and adaptable in the face of changing organisational priorities and ambiguous environments
· Competence with computer programs (especially MS Office; MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint) and electronic communication (email and internet).
