Happy Chinese New Year!
As the year 2015 comes to an end and we soon embrace the Year of the Monkey, The George Institute for Global Health, China would like to take this chance to express sincere thanks for your continued trust and steady support.
In 2015, we continued our close collaboration with Peking University Health Science Center while propelling new collaborations with government sectors, universities, scientific research institutes and other not-for-profit organizations to propel global-level research on clinical, population and healthcare services.
We successfully hosted a Women’s Health Policy Dialogue with Peking University Health Science Center to help increase women’s empowerment through improvements in women’s health; we signed a landmark Memorandum of Agreement with The Chinese College of Cardiovascular Physicians to provide Chinese doctors with world class clinical research training. We continued to carry out high-quality research and published impactful results in domestic and foreign journals, including the SimCard study using smartphone-based simplified cardiovascular disease (CVD) management intervention to manage high risks of CVD in Tibet and India, which has been published in Circulation; and a study in Nutrients about the average salt intake and its sources in Beijing.
Our studies are in smooth progress, including:
- The SSaSS study which aims to investigate if low sodium salt substitute can reduce morbidity and mortality of stroke, the largest randomized control study in this field worldwide. It has been carried out in 600 villages from 10 counties in 5 provinces in northern China.
- The I-CARE study, the largest ever study to evaluate whether depression management and cardiovascular disease management can be cost-effectively provided and improve the health outcomes in rural China, has recruited over 50% of patients.
- The China Center for mHealth Innovation (CCmHI) launched the free app FoodSwitch, aiming to help Chinese consumers to shop for healthier packaged food; and issued a landscaping report on the development of mobile health in China in 2015.
These accomplishments would not have been possible without your support!
Hoping that you and your families will enjoy a cheerful holiday, we would like to extend our wishes for a prosperous Year of the Monkey filled with warmth, peace, and happiness!
